Tom Patterson has been passionate about music for as long as he can remember. Raised in central Texas, Tom Patterson completed his All-Level Certification in Music Education after acquiring his high school diploma. As he set off for college, he had a clear direction in mind – Band Director at a successful school. Charting the course was anything but simple.
Living the life of both a student and a musician provided opportunities that few early in their career enjoy. Band Director Tom Patterson played in the university’s orchestra and the university’s wind ensemble, opera and also performed at Carnegie Hall. Band Director Tom Patterson also accompanied his university’s chorus as well as marched in the marching band.
Attending college allowed Band Director Tom Patterson to complete his Masters in Music Education. Tom Patterson secured his Bachelor of Music Education from the same university. His academics stood out and he was placed on the Dean’s list. While at his university he was also an outstanding performer, an opportunity that has served Tom Patterson well in his position as the Band Director.
On the journey to become a middle school Band Director, Tom Patterson was selected as a student teacher at both Westwood High School and Grisham Middle School. Additionally, Tom Patterson was hired as Assistant Band Director at Bailey Middle School. Tom Patterson also juggled duties as a lesson instructor at many area middle and high schools. Early in his teaching career, his dedication paid off as Band Director Tom Patterson was recognized as a distinguished teacher in Austin Independent School District.
Tom Patterson was later employed as Associate Band Director at Stony Point High School as well as an Assistant Teacher at Ridgeview, Hopewell, CD Fulkes Middle Schools. Since 2004, Tom Patterson has served in the Round Rock school district as Deerpark Middle School’s Band Director.
Tom Patterson’s tenure as Band Director is best reflected in the performance and accomplishments of his students. Director Tom Patterson and his students have been honored many times for their excellence in band competitions, with the awards reflecting a wide spectrum of musical forms. Tom Patterson’s bands have experienced success at many festivals including the cities of Colorado Springs, Winter Park, Houston, Dallas, Austin, New Braunfels, Corpus Christi and New Orleans. From sight-reading to performance, beginning bands, advanced bands and jazz bands Director Tom Patterson and his band students are a true reflection of his passion as a teacher, band director and example to students.
Band Director Tom Patterson is a member in good standing with his Music Educators Association and the College Bandmasters Association.
